My Photography Book
So, It may appear as though I completely left this blog out to dry, but, as I have mentioned here, and on Flickr, I was actually invited to write a book by Watson-Guptill, an arts publisher in New York City. The book was aimed to be a photography guide for teenagers, and has not deviated too far from that original idea.
So, that is the front cover to the right, something exciting for me to see!
Writing this book has been a huge experience for me, and a thoroughly enjoyable one too. For starters, I got to expand into something that I enjoyed doing beforehand, and that was writing, even though I was doing this blog, having a much more regemented scheme meant I was doing more writing, and improving too.
Of course, and unfortunately, this meant I did neglect the blog, quite badly in fact, but now that the book is pretty much done and dusted, off to the printers as I write this, it’s an exciting time for me, and time to expand back into the blog.
The majority of the writing was done in my school holidays of 2007, and then editing continued up until around Summer 2008, a long process, as I was forewarned, but one I didn’t mind. One thing that I really enjoyed is that I was actually doing something meaningful, something ‘real life’ with my time, whilst still at school, and I have got to meet many interesting people in the process.
In Winter 2007, I travelled to New York, one of my favourite places, since I visited there when I must have been around 12/13, and it was no different, I loved it, as was to be expected. You can see some of the photographs I took there in this set, on Flickr.
In New York, I met with the people I had only emailed and spoken to on the phone, and it was really great to finally meet and talk with them, we had lunch, and I spent an afternoon with the person who was editing my work and we went over a draft copy, which was really nice.
Anywho, moving on, the final presentation of the book is obviously aimed at ‘Generation Now’, however, it can just as easily be viewed as an amateur photographers guide, with basic sections, it starts from picking a suitable camera, and moves through basic technique, guides to things like portraiture, low light work, sports, and then into post processing, and finally there is a chapter on making some money out of your photos to conclude.
It is a really exciting book, and I cannot wait for it to be available so you can all share in the knowledge it should hopefully provide.
As ever, if you have any questions about the book, don’t hesitate to contact me at: castyr@gmail.com and feel free to leave a comment on this page too, I’ll respond!
